Abstract

Mathias N., was a single, Catholic, wagon driver. He was accused of aggravated robbery but only confessed during his second torture session. He confessed to committing multiple robberies along with several accomplices. People who were encountered during these crimes were brutally beaten and burned on various parts of their bodies. Mathias N. was sentenced to be broken with the wheel from the bottom up but the sentenced was changed so that he was broken from the top down. After execution his body was to be quartered and those pieces hung on a makeshift gallows as an example to the public. Includes a moralistic treatment of the case in verse.
