Abstract

Details the robbery/murder of a miller, his wife, and young son by Jakob Pfalzköhler who dispatched each of his victims with multiple stab wounds. He stopped by the mill to ask for bread. The miller asked if he wanted to spend the night. Jakob said no but took the bread and a small sum of money the miller offered him. He left but sneaked back into the mill undetected. He hid until the family went to sleep. The family dog barked so much, the miller got up to look around. The dog ran to the place where the intruder was hiding but the miller had no time to act before he was attacked and stabbed to death. The miller's relatives ended up with that same dog. The thief escaped and took a job working at a roadhouse. The dog was with one of the relatives on a trip and saw the murderer. The dog immediately attacked Pfalzköhler and bit him so badly that the he had to be hospitalized. Pfalzköhler was recognized as a stranger to that area by his accent and was soon identified as having been in the area of the mill. He was sentenced to beheading.
