Abstract

Describes the many incidents of arson commited by Franz Dobmaier, a 62 year-old, married father of 3 minor children. He set fires to distract the owners and their neighbors as he slipped into buildings to steal money. Not only did his fires destroy many buildings but several people were injured or killed in the smoke and flames. Dobmaier was sentenced to be burned alive but that sentenced was commuted to beheading by the sword. The sentence was carried out June 27, 1811.
